Barcelona stars Gerard Pique and Cesc Fabregas revealed their delight at being drawn against German side Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last 16. The Catalans finished top of their group, which included AC Milan, and will now face Bayer Leverkusen, who finished behind Chelsea in their group.

For the Catalans, the fact that they avoided any Russian team seems to be a big relief. Fabregas expressed his views on Twitter saying, “Well, we have to travel to Germany. Bayer 04 Leverkusen, German teams are always very strong. We have avoided the Russians. Good.”

Pique is equally anticipating the match, claiming that he had always wanted to play in a German stadium. He also tweeted: “We have drawn Bayer Leverkusen! Not bad! I’ve always wanted to play in a German stadium. There will be a great atmosphere for football”

Meanwhile, Barcelona president Sandro Rosell echoed Fabregas’ words by claiming that it’s a big relief to have avoided a long trip to Russia.

”When you reach the last 16 we have to be ready to face any opponent, and as such we would have been happy with whatever team we got. Every team has its pros and cons,” Rosell said after seeing his club paired with Bayer Leverkusen.

”For example, the Russian teams. We would have preferred not to have faced them due to the plane trip, having to travel a day before, and for the cold, but then they are in pre-season.”
